ARCHITECTURE

Factoría creativa-cultural
The need to provide the students at the University of Malaga with a building with services and facilities is presented, providing a reference point that welcomes and identifies the students. As a result of several analyses, the first decision was to find an appropriate location where architecture could enhance the characteristics. The project is located in a small redoubt, a natural landscape that appears as a singular place. An action is carried out that turns this place into a ‘natural reserve’.
This building, with its strategic position, improves the organization and relationship between the different buildings of the campus in order to achieve a greater connection and create a link between buildings and public spaces. That generates a continuity of use, modifying and improving spaces that are unused at present.
In relation to the programme, flexible and adaptive spaces are proposed through an adequate structural system that organizes the spaces. Load-bearing elements, large panels of laminated wood, divide and act as organizing components. Besides the response to students’ needs, the educational gardens of the University of Málaga and spaces destined for the entire city are incorporated, creating multipurpose, exhibition and meeting areas, with the intention of promoting culture.
The project incorporates sustainability. Wood, with its high ecological value, regulates the environmental humidity, generating clean spaces that convey the adequate atmosphere for the proposed activities. A place to create, be and inhabit together, a ‘Vivero’ (Vivarium) where students can generate and cultivate ideas.
